What Can I Do to Put a Comic Into Your Hands Today?
ComixTribe's Oxymoron: Killing Time wraps in just 12 hours... How Should We Close the Deal!
I love making comics. I have since I was a kid. But over the years, I’ve come to love selling them, too!
But when you’re making a sales pitch to a potential reader, as I’m doing right this very second with less than 12 hours to go for the OXYMORON: KILLING TIME Anthology Hardcover, what’s the best way to do it?
One of the nice things about running a Kickstarter campaign for several weeks is that you have the time and the space to make a sales pitch in a number of different ways.
I’ll be honest… having a book with an AMAZING cover that sells itself is always a great place to start, and this beauty from Jonathan Rector (artist of The Standard) certainly helps.
Of course, most comic readers won’t simply buy a book based on its cover… they’re comic READERS after all. And I’ve learned over the years that readers need a COMPELLING CHARACTER and a CAPTIVATING CONCEPT in order to really jump on board.
✅ COMPELLING CHARACTER: Oxymoron, a contradiction-obsessed killer, a psychopath with an ethos, a bloody mash-up of The Joker, Deadpool & Dexter.
✅ CAPTIVATING CONCEPT: Find out what happens when a contradiction-obsessed killer sets out on a blood-soaked adventure through time, targeting history's greatest hypocrites!
For a lot of readers, that might be enough to get them on board, but there are always some fence sitters who only back books from creators they know can deliver. So that’s why I’ve also spent a lot of time trying to highlight all the talent onboard this launch.
And one of the best things about doing anthology launches is that many of these trusted creators are bringing their fans and backers to the party, and so far we’ve earned the support of over 160 first time backers with this launch.
My pal George O’Connor, who also is a contributor to the project and crafted the killer Oxymoron: Killing Time anthem featured in our video also shared recently that sometimes at conventions, rather than push a specific book, he does a “vibe check” with potential customers to see what kind of mood their into… and then matches that mood to a book on his table.
The best part of pitching an anthology project like Oxymoron: Killing Time is that with over 18 stories, there are lots of different vibes, from zany to scary to twisted to hilarious, all captured in one book. There’s a little something for everyone in these pages.
And if that’s STILL not enough to push backers over the top, I also sometimes sweeten the deal during a Kickstarter launch by running SPECIALS on the ComixTribe backlist:
Kickstarter campaigns are marathons, but at the beginning and the end, they also feel very much like sprints.
This latest campaign for the character who helped start my Kickstarter journey in the first place twelve years ago wraps at midnight to then… this is me sprinting through the finish line.
If you’ve already backed… THANK YOU. You’re amazing and we appreciate your support.
But if you haven’t backed yet, let me what can I do to put a comic in your hands?

P.S. We’re SOOOOO Close to clearing the board of stretch goals. Let’s go!!!

I'm so ready to get this in, 3 great Kickstarter projects dropped and since I haven't been able to in a bit I backed this one! Thanks for all the hard work and love you put into each project!
Covers draw me in; but it's the pitch that seals the deal (or not).
